Nicole + Richard {Hawaii Destination Wedding}

When: August 2008
Where: Mauna Lani Hotel, Big Island
What: Hawaii Destination Wedding

I absolutely LOVE the Big Island, so I was pretty excited when Nicole and Richard asked if I was available to photograph their destination wedding in Kona. Lucky for us, the vog was not too bad the day of the wedding, and we had some beautiful blue skies for some portraits the morning after the wedding. But what made it such an awesome wedding was how enjoyable both Nicole and Richard were to photograph - plus I should mention how friendly their families were.

I had a lot of favs from this wedding so it was hard to choose which ones to post. But this will have to do for now since Nicole and Richard were kind enough to fly me to San Diego a couple of weeks ago to photograph their second ceremony at home. (Yep, my first destination wedding outside of Hawaii). It was also gorgeous of course, so I'm sure I am going to have a hard time picking favs from that wedding also.

Happy Halloween! :o)

The Coulston Family(s)

When: September 2008
Where: Honolulu, Hawaii
What: Family Portrait Session

Nope, you are not seeing double, nor is this one lucky guy with two lovely wives. They are actually twins!     :o)

Thank goodness Chelsea and Sophia were there to keep the guys out of "trouble". Just kidding. But one thing is for sure, little baby Maddie stole the day...isn't she the cutest one-month old baby?

School Picture Time!

It's fall. The kids are back in school, and anyone who has been to school or had a child in school knows that fall is school picture time! It's a tradition that's been held for generations. And historically, school pictures are NOT good. The school photographers have about 30 seconds to photograph each child, and they don't care if the kid is smiling, or his hair is sticking straight up, or she has food on her chin. As a mom, I usually bought the smallest package of school pictures available, and only because the grandparents insisted. But let's face it--those photos are not flattering, and I cringe every time I see them--as a former student, as a mom, and as a photographer.

Several years ago, my good friend and colleague and I decided there had to be a better alternative. Rebekah and I decided we could offer quality portraits in a school setting. We created a new company, Pope & Schwartz--Contemporary School Portraiture. Now wouldn't you love for your child's school pictures to look like this? (These are from one of our pre-school clients. I will be sharing from some of our elementary, middle, and high schools in the coming weeks.)

Zach + Suzanne

Congratulations to our friends Zach & Suzanne! I was a guest at this wedding, not the photographer, but I haven't attended a wedding without a camera in years. Here's just a snap of them coming back down the isle--look how happy they are! Kelly and I wish you many blessings as you start your journey as husband and wife.

I had so much fun this morning photographing Hillary with my friend and colleague, Rebekah Pope. Hillary came with lots of outfits, shoes, and jewelry, and I brought all my hats, scarves, and sunglasses. It got pretty hot pretty fast (almost 90 degrees today) but Hillary was a real trouper, even standing in the sun in Rebekah' s vintage mink. The historic district in downtown Franklin is one of my favorite locations, and we covered several blocks this morning. So here are some of my favorites. Hope you enjoy them!

Heather + Sean {Teaser Preview}

When: October 2008
Where: North Shore
What: Intimate Beach Wedding

I enjoy all the weddings I photograph for their uniqueness and that something special between the bride and groom. But I have to say that the small, intimate weddings are favs because there usually is not a tight schedule to keep. Plus when it is just you and the bride and groom, you can usually get pretty creative with your shots. I recently had the great pleasure of photographing Heather and Sean's wedding at a "secret" and special location on the North Shore. Before the ceremony we took some fun shots around Haleiwa Town, and since they were pretty open to anything we had a lot of fun capturing their delightful personalities (Sean is an avid surfer btw).

Congrats to Heather and Sean ~ enjoy the photos! :o)
