closing the circle at the risk of going a long way for nothing

If you've ever heard Bob Dylan's song Desolation Row, you've heard these lines.

they're spoonfeeding casanova
to get him to feel more assured
then they'll kill him with self-confidence
and poison him with words.

That last last line. . . poison him with words, is the inspiration for a posting I wrote on If the Walls Could Talk called: How to Murder a Poet. . . Here is a link to that short post. The way you murder a poet, I think, is to poison him with words. I went and wrote a book with that title and the summary is posted at this link which takes you to www.how-to-murder-a-poet.blogspot.com.

Lastly (and I hope this closes the circle and that we have not gone a long way for nothing) I have a neighbor who also has an autistic child. She and her son, who is now 15 years old try to compose what they call Lost Lyrics. They take the meter and rhythm of the song Desolation Row and compose new lyrics to it - they always try to be fun and silly and vastly liberal with whom they lampoon. They do not have a blog so I can't link to them but their names are April and Jess. They are going to let me post a new Lost Lyric of theirs every once in awhile. Jess is hoping that other people might try to do the same, write a Lost Lyric of Desolation Row but I've told him it's hard to expect other people to share our passions - our fears yes - but not our passions. Here is the one that wanted me to share with you. It is also posted here. . . at this link:

Lost Lyrics to Desolation Row

the doctor is not falling
her parachute is made out of lust
her stethoscope and her scalpel
are getting quite covered with dust
her patients are out selling tickets
the lines are stretching clear through the door
the receptionist has gone swimming
the milkman is mopping the floor
if you can't take the heat in the kitchen now
just wait 'til you find the ozone did go
flying with amelia earhart down
to desolation row.

Thanks for reading this far.

Your title is a hoot. I enjoyed the journey and love your lyrics. Bruce would be pleased if he knew of them. ;)

I think it's a brilliant idea! I have a soft spot for autism and can't wait to here more from April and Jess in the future

I am not so sure that the April and Jess lyrics aren't an improvement. I've never been a Dylan fan, but I am partial to silliness.

I appreciate the fact that the milkman is mopping the floor. (I assume he spilt some milk.)
